Tesla Cybercab Launch Sends Stock Surging

Tesla stock is surging Thursday morning, with shares of TSLA opening near $365.92 and climbing to a day high of $380.86, a gain of over 6.27% intraday. The move comes on the same day Tesla is officially unveiling the production version of its long-anticipated Cybercab. Tesla's Cybercab launch event is scheduled for tonight, Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Austin, Texas, an invite-only event that the company says it will livestream for the public. Tesla first revealed the Cybercab concept at the We, Robot event in October 2024, but tonight is the debut of the finished production vehicle. The Cybercab is Tesla's purpose-built two-seat robotaxi, designed without a steering wheel or pedals and built to run fully autonomously on Tesla's Full Self-Driving software. In a signal that Tesla is moving beyond just talk, a recent Texas Department of Motor Vehicles automated-vehicle listing shows Cybercabs have already been added to Tesla's Texas robotaxi roster, joining more than 250 Model Ys that already handle passenger rides across the Austin metro. Tesla also recently expanded its driverless Robotaxi geofence in Austin to roughly 288 square miles, its sixth expansion since the service launched with just 20 square miles in 2025. CEO Elon Musk has previously said Cybercab buyers will eventually be able to own one for under $30,000. Tesla's driverless robotaxi service is already live in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Miami. Tonight's reveal is widely viewed as one of Tesla's most important autonomy milestones since the robotaxi service began, and traders are watching closely. $TSLA.
