SpaceX stock is bouncing sharply Tuesday after CEO Elon Musk delivered a blunt warning to anyone shorting the company. In a post on X, Musk said the survival probability of firms who maintain a significant short position in SpaceX over time is very low. The comment surfaced just as SPCX was hitting new lows following its record-breaking IPO in June, with bearish bets against the stock growing quickly in recent weeks. Musk has a long history of clashing with short sellers of his companies, most notably Tesla. In 2018 he told Tesla shorts they had about three weeks before their positions would explode, and in more recent years he has said short sellers will be obliterated once Tesla achieves full autonomy and scaled Optimus production. Musk famously feuded with Bill Gates over Gates' Tesla short position, and Tesla once launched short shorts merchandise that crashed the company's website. SpaceX has launched its own IPO merch, but so far, no short shorts.
