AMC Entertainment (NYSE: AMC) shares surged more than 11% Monday, opening above $2, after the world's largest theater operator posted a blowout second-quarter earnings report and rode the record-shattering opening weekend of Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey." AMC reported Q2 2026 adjusted earnings of $0.14 per share, dramatically better than the analyst consensus that called for a $0.04 per share loss. Revenue grew 14% year-over-year to $1.59 billion, beating the $1.5 billion FactSet consensus. Adjusted EBITDA jumped 70% to $321.4 million, exceeding $300 million for the first time in company history, and AMC generated $190.1 million in free cash flow during the quarter. Total attendance rose nearly 14%. Separately, AMC said more than 4.3 million moviegoers worldwide attended its U.S. AMC Theatres and international ODEON Cinemas from Thursday through Sunday, led by "The Odyssey," which delivered AMC's biggest R-rated opening weekend across its U.S. circuit since 2024. Universal's Nolan epic pulled in an estimated $124.5 million domestically and $139.6 million internationally, for a global opening of $264.1 million, the biggest of Nolan's career. CEO Adam Aron called the results "extraordinary" and the best in the company's 106-year history, saying "the relentless focus of AMC on delighting our guests as we execute with all cylinders blazing is reflected in our record-setting second quarter financial results." Despite Monday's rally, AMC shares are still down roughly 99% from their record closing high of $339.05 set during the 2021 meme-stock frenzy. IMAX (NYSE: IMAX) shares gained about 3.2% and Cinemark Holdings (NYSE: CNK) rose 3.6% in sympathy. --- #AMC #stocks #TheOdyssey 🌐 Find more market-moving insights at https://www.benzinga.com — your one-stop destination for the latest financial news, data, and expert analysis to stay ahead of the markets. 🖥️ Want the same tools the pros use—without the $10K Bloomberg terminal?
