Amazon (AMZN) has reportedly selected Kenya to host its first satellite ground station in Africa, marking a major step in Jeff Bezos' push to build a real competitor to Elon Musk's Starlink. Ground stations, which SpaceX calls Gateways, are what bounce data between satellites and users on the ground, and SpaceX already operates hundreds of them worldwide. Starlink currently has around 10,000 satellites and more than 10 million subscribers. Starlink reportedly generated 3.3 billion dollars in revenue in the first quarter of 2026, up 32 percent year over year, with 1.2 billion dollars in operating profit, up 15 percent. Amazon, by comparison, has around 330 satellites in orbit for Amazon Leo, the constellation formerly known as Project Kuiper. Amazon uses multiple launch partners, including SpaceX and Bezos' own Blue Origin, but Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket has stumbled. In April, an upper-stage engine issue placed an AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) BlueBird satellite into the wrong orbit, and the spacecraft was lost. In late May, a static fire test at Launch Complex 36 in Cape Canaveral ended in a rocket explosion that destroyed the transporter-erector and damaged ground infrastructure. AST stock, which had traded above 133 dollars before the New Glenn explosion, was around 96.99 in early trading, up 5.4 percent. Amazon shares were up about 2 percent at 250.03. #Amazon #Starlink #BlueOrigin 🖥️ Try Benzinga Pro FREE with a 14 day trial: https://www.benzinga.com/pro/register 📈 Take your trading to the next level with our suite of premium research services and tools: https://www.benzinga.com/services 🌐 Find more market-moving insights at https://www.benzinga.com — your one-stop destination for the latest financial news, data, and expert analysis to stay ahead of the markets. 📲 Follow us on socials @benzinga ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 🔹Free Benzinga Webinars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ2jOJNkDfI&list=PL4k0fH8EgI3YTdqniRmxrvz97w3IQ61rD 🔹Benzinga Pro Tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2FaHhLIrks&list=PL4k0fH8EgI3YMwoBMFXGvVMkgixFymmei&pp=gAQB 🔹Earnings Calls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2-AoCw64Ok&list=PL4k0fH8EgI3buZI5529R53wJUNd9NS4_s 🔹Premarket Playbook: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4k0fH8EgI3ZVRPM7INpG--GvohnBVTnT 🔹Benzinga's All Access: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4k0fH8EgI3bQSn91atO-3lPT4V6Nwsmh 🔹Subscribe To The Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@Benzinga ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ⚠️ Disclaimer: Investing in financial markets carries risk, and there are no guaranteed returns.
