Elon Musk recently reminded users that X's recommendation algorithm is open source on GitHub at xai-org/x-algorithm. The code reveals a Grok-based transformer model called Phoenix that ranks posts by predicting engagement probabilities — likes, replies, reposts, blocks, and more. According to X's earlier algorithm release and reporting on the current code, replies are weighted more heavily than likes, external links are deprioritized, and Premium accounts have been reported to receive a verification-based visibility boost. However, despite Musk's promise of monthly updates, the repository has only one commit since launching in January 2026.
